Tomato and Broccoli Soup

  • Tomatoes, chopped roughly 4 cups (750 g)
  • Carrot, chopped fine ½ cup
  • Potato, peeled and chopped fine ½ cup
  • Powdered black pepper ½ tsp
  • Sugar 1 tsp (5 g) or to taste
  • Salt 2 tsp or to taste
  • Broccoli, broken into tiny flowerets ½ cup
  • Cream for garnishing 4 tbsp (60 g)
  • Water, as required


  • Cook together the tomatoes, carrot, potato, 1 tsp salt and one cup water, till the vegetables are cooked enough to be mashed.
  • Remove from the fire and when cool enough to handle, blend the mixture in a blender or strain through a soup strainer. Measure the liquid and add water to make 4 ½ cups.

  • Bring to a boil again, add the broccoli and then simmer. Add sugar and black pepper. Simmer another 5 minutes.

  • Pour the soup in bowls, garnish with the cream and serve hot.
