Chicken Drumsticks with Apricots

Chicken legs with dried apricots, lightly spiced

  • Chicken drumsticks 6 (750 g)
  • Dried apricots 100 g, soaked overnight in water  
  • Vinegar cup
  • Garlic paste 1 tsp
  • Salt 1 tsp or to taste
  • Sabut kali mirch 8-10
  • Mustard powder 1 tsp
  • Garam masala 1 tsp
  • Basil leaves, whole cup
  • Onions in vinegar, chopped 2 tbsp
  • Whole onions for garnish


  • De-seed the apricots and put them back in the liquid.
  • Place the chicken, vinegar, garlic, salt, kali mirch, mustard, garam masala and cup water in a pan and bring to a boil.

  • Lower the heat and cook, partially covered for 5 minutes. Uncover and cook till almost tender.

  • Add the apricots (along with the liquid), basil and chopped onions and simmer for another 5 minutes or so, till chicken is tender.

  • Serve hot garnished with the whole onions.
