Rich Walnut Pie

Ingredients

  • Oven temp: 325 F-160 C
  • Empty Pastry Shell 7 -8 round
  • Brown sugar, firmly packed 1/3 cup /80 g
  • Butter 1/3 cup /80 g
  • Powdered sugar 1/3 cup /80 g
  • Eggs, lightly beaten 3
  • Maple syrup or honey 3 tbsp/ 45 g
  • Milk 1/3 cup/80 ml
  • Walnuts, chopped fine 100g
  • Vanilla essence 1 tsp
  • Salt tsp
  • Walnut halves to decorate
 

Preparation

  • Place the brown sugar, butter, sugar, syrup or honey and milk in a pan. Beat well to mix and place this pan over another pan of water, which is over low heat.
  • While stirring all the time, add the eggs and cook till slightly thickened.

  • Remove from heat and stir in the chopped walnuts, vanilla and salt.

  • Pour the mixture into the pastry shell, decorate with the walnut halves and bake in a pre-heated oven for about 30 minutes, or till the filling is set. Serve it warm or at room temperature, accompanied with ice cream or cream.
