Aam ki Chutney

A sweet and sour chutney of grated mangoes

Type: Chutney Cooking Time: 30 minutes after the ingredients are ready


  • 1 kg  raw mangoes, peeled and grated
  • 4 cups (1 kg) powdered sugar, or according to taste
  • 3/4 cup (150 g) salt
  • 1/4 cup (20 g) chilli powder
  • 1 tbsp sabut kali mirch (pepper corns) ]
  • 2 tej patta (bay leaves) ]
  • 1 tsp heeng (asafoetida)         ] powdered
  • 1 tbsp laung (cloves) ]
  • An airtight jar


  • Mix all the ingredients together, and place over low heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Do not let it come to a boil.
  • When the sugar dissolves, let it come to a boil then shut off the heat.

  • Transfer into a sterilised jar and store.
