Til Aloo Chatpate

Ingredients

  • Potatoes , boiled, peeled and cut into 2 1/2 cm /1" cubes 500 g
  • Black sesame seeds (Kala til) ¼ cup
  • Mustard (sarson) oil 2 tbsp (30 g)
  • Green chillies coarsely chopped 3-4 (or to taste),
  • Salt, to taste or 2 tbsp
  • Turmeric (Haldi) ½ tsp
  • Lemon/lime juice, to taste or 2 tbsp
 

Preparation

  • Wash the sesame seeds well under running water in a sieve, till all the grit is washed away.
  • Put the seeds and green chillies in a blender and pulse till coarsely ground or pound coarsely.

  • Heat the oil in a heavy based pan, and add the sesame seeds and sauté till they look glossy and fried.

  • Add the salt and the turmeric.

  • Mix well and add the potatoes and stir fry over high heat, till well coated with the sesame seeds. Mix in the lemon/lime juice, and serve.
