Dear Niruji,

the whole wheat atta cake can it be made without eggs? What can we substitute instead of the eggs or would there be a totally different recipe?

Hope to hear from you soon,

Just substitute 1/4 cup dahi for each egg.

Hi Niru,
Being a defence officer's wife we have been recently posted to Dhaka for ten months. I am allergic to maida and thus would like to know how could I bake an atta cake. The trouble is that here we r not provided with an oven. Our's is left back at home in Mumbai. I have learnt that one can bake cakes in a pressure cooker. Pls do let me know how. I have a 6 yr old daughter eagerly waiting for me to bake her a cake.

Wholewheat (Atta)Cake in a pressure cooker

Atta (Whole wheat) 1cups (200 g)
Powdered sugar 3/4 cup (180 g)
Baking powder 1 1/4 tsp
Oil ¼ cup (60 g)
Water ¼ cup
Eggs 2
Vanilla essence ½ tsp
1 baking tins 8”-9” round

Method
Grease the tins and dust with atta.
Place the atta, shakkar, soda, baking powder, dalchini, jaiphal, oil and water in a bowl and beat smooth.
Add the eggs and vanilla essence and beat till smooth again.
Divide the mixture into the tins.
Heat the pressure cooker, covered but without the pressure for 3-4 minutes on high heat, then place the cake tin in it. Cover again without the pressure, lower the flame and let cook till done (about 1/2 an hour).
