Ingredients

Apples 6 medium or 4 large

Lemon juice 2 tbsp

Dates (Khajur), chopped fine ¾ cup
-
Walnuts (Akhrot), chopped fine ¼ cup
-
Brown sugar 1 cup
-
Water 1 cup
-
Butter 2 tbsp
-
Cinnamon (Dalchini) powder ½ tsp

Preparation

Wash and wipe apples. Core the apples—cut around the stalk in a circle all through the length and scoop out the center, leaving a hollow channel in the center approx. ¾” in diameter.
Mix the dates, lemon juice and walnuts.
Fill the cavity of the apples with the date mixture and place in a baking dish.
Put the brown sugar, water, butter and cinnamon together and bring to a boil.
Pour this syrup over the apples and place the dish in the pre-heated oven to bake.
Bake for about an hour, basting (pour the liquid in the dish over the apples) 3-4 times. Serve hot with cream or ice cream, if you so desire.
